The VP Debate

Ho hum. I had hoped for a decisive outcome where Biden would have devastated Palin, but this was not to be. Although she was transparently parroting talking point lines for much of the evening, she didn't humiliate herself. And given her performance on TV the past two weeks, "not humiliating oneself" has to count for a point or two.

There was one point in the debate where she tried to make Obama out as having voted one way on an issue, but Biden was apparently ready for her and immediately moved to contradict her. Since she didn't come back at him after he upended her argument, it gave the appearance that she was just repeating lines given to her by her handlers, whereas Biden seemed like he actually understood what was being talked about. She wisely moved on to the next subject rather than get her nose bloodied.

Where the expectations were so low, anything except disaster might look like a victory of sorts. However, one thing she did not do all night long is look like someone who is ready to be President. The idea of her in the Oval Office is a truly frightening one. McCain made a terrible mistake choosing her.
